Prescribing by weight in children: this alert was developed in response to a request by the Health and Disablilty Commissioner following a case where the dose of medicine for a baby was calculated using a weight recorded as being in kilograms but was actually pounds and ounces. The alert was sent out for national consultation in August 2009. The updated alert is currently being reviewed by the Paediatric Society and is expected to be released in 2010.
